We have been repeatedly told: this is the best California Sangiovese for the money. In 2007, we had our second opportunity to make sangiovese from our favorite organic vineyard, Mesa Del Sol. This site also yields syrah of intense richness and character, true to form in the inaugural vintage of Sangiovese in 2006. We prefer the richer and more muscular style of Brunellos, and the vineyard provides that kind of depth. All of the fruit for this wine was grown organically, and it was bottled without fining or filtration.
It's primary aromas and flavors are of cherry, interwoven with gentle tones of vanillin and herbs. The initial texture and flavor impression is relatively broad and fruity, tapering as the supporting tannins work their way in. There is a nice flourish of flavor at the finish as well, indicating the wine will drink nicely for several years.
